Marie C. Dern, Jungle Garden Press and Red Berry Editions

October 3rd, Sunday, 4 pm, Mrs. Dalloway’s Books (2904 College Ave., Berkeley, CA).

Marie C. Dern presents and discusses a selection of her handmade books from Jungle Garden Press, founded in 1974, and a selection of books from Red Berry Editions, which she founded in 2008 with Jane Downs. Both presses publish collaborations with writers and visual artists, and Jungle Garden Press includes books written by Dern. Dern will also talk about her newest book from Jungle Garden Press, Not an Exit, with poems by Bill Berkson and drawings by Leonie Guyer, which will be published later this fall.

Jungle Garden Press books are letterpress printed and hand bound. Dern says her intention is “to make the experience of reading beautiful to the touch and the eyes as well as the mind, and to make the text understandable to the reader in the way I interpret it.” Red Berry Editions books include commercially printed and letterpress printed.

Authors published by Jungle Garden Press and Red Berry Editions include Kay Ryan, Betty Allen Smith, Jane Downs, and David Scounce, and artists include Inez Storer and Carl Dern.

Books from both presses will be available for sale after the presentation.
